At Carolinas Medical Center-Mercy, we believe that providing truly outstanding healthcare involves more than just treating a symptom, it means caring for a person - a person whose needs include a comfortable environment, a friendly face and a reassuring touch in addition to state-of-the-art medical services. For almost 100 years, we've been treating our neighbors from Charlotte and the surrounding region with that special combination of unsurpassed human compassion and leading-edge expertise.
CMC-Mercy was established in 1906 by the Sisters of Mercy as the first Catholic Hospital in North Carolina. On June 5, 1995, this not-for-profit adult health tertiary acute care facility was sold by the Sisters to Carolinas HealthCare System. CMC-Mercy is licensed for 196 beds.
As an adult acute care facility, CMC-Mercy provides a full-range of services, from emergency room care to surgery to rehabilitation. In addition, we serve as the home to some of the area's most advanced specialty services, such as The Heart Center, The Lung Center, Southeast Pain Care, The Sleep Center and several others.
Empowered by our dedicated team of caregivers - doctors, nurses, technicians, administrators and more - many of whom have been a part of the CMC-Mercy family for decades, we're confident in our ability to provide excellent healthcare that incorporates "high-touch" as well as "high-tech."
Bariatric Center
CMC-Mercy is home to one of the only surgical weight loss centers in our region to be designated as a Center of Excellence by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina. Deciding to undergo surgical weight loss procedures can be difficult, but if you have been unable to sustain weight loss and have a body mass index of 35 or greater, surgery may be a good option.
The Heart Center
Providing hope and healing for those diagnosed with cardiac disease is an area of specialization at CMC-Mercy, and has been for decades. In fact, some of the first open-heart procedures in the region were performed here in the 1950s. Even now, the board-certified cardiologists and cardiovascular surgeons at The Heart Center have access to some of the most advanced technologies and utilize the latest treatment techniques. Together with The Heart Center's nurses, dieticians, therapists and patient educators, they work as a team to ensure each patient receives the most personal, compassionate, and effective care available.
The Lung Center
The mission of The Lung Center is to help patients with serious pulmonary conditions breath as normally as possible and improve the quality of their lives. The Lung Center treats patients afflicted with a wide-range of problems, from asthma and lung cancer to sleep-disordered breathing. Under the supervision of director Peter Loper, M.D., The Lung Center brings together a team of specialists committed to providing a comprehensive range of services.
Whether they require diagnosis, therapy or education, patients can rest assured knowing they will receive state-of-the-art treatment in a soothing atmosphere.
